Turn Dreams into Reality – Hong Lam

Coming from an arduous background, characterized by the uncertainties of tomorrow and fearing whether her family could afford a meal next week, Hong’s family received the opportunity of a lifetime when their relative sponsored them to America. “This is it,” she thought. “This is our golden ticket to turn everything around.” Knowing that life wouldn’t be handed on a silver platter for them, she urged herself to work multiple retail jobs on top of 6+ units, adding up to two hundred hours monthly to help her parents pay off rent. Beaten and broken, Hong felt like there was no positive future ahead of her when all she was doing was playing “catch-up.” Even with her career in accounting field, she had no way of paying back her parents with a lifestyle where they could travel and explore the best of the world, but instead race against the clock. “This is not what we came here for,” she realized. “There has to be a better way.”

Recognizing the vast disparity between the life they desired and their current reality, Hong came to grips with the fact that her current path of employment would never give them the life her family dreamed of. Despite all the aspirations they had for themselves, their life was falling far short of their expectations. Luckily, Hong found people who helped them begin to make decisions differently than she had up until that point. Because of these key relationships, Hong began on a journey of identifying her own personal values, and have committed to living their life through them ever since. These values became the lens and the filter through which Hong would make decisions in life. When they changed the way they looked at things, the things they looked at changed. Hong believes that, “To whom much is given, much is required.” Hong has decided to live their life paying forward to others what was paid forward to her, changing the world one family at a time. They hope to help people live their lives in a way that fulfills their purpose and potential. As one of Hong’s greatest heroes used to tell them, “The greatest use of your life is to live your life so that the use of your life outlives your life.” Legacy is greater than currency.

Her journey was such a miracle thanks to her mentors’ guidance, she transformed her dreams into reality and now enjoys a rewarding career as a successful entrepreneur.
